Scott Culver

Scott’s first foray into music was in 5th grade.  He took guitar lessons from the school’s music teacher for a few weeks.  His most memorable moment was going down the aisle of the bus carrying his guitar over the seats and bonking someone on the head, accidentally, like the nun in the movie “Airplane”.

He started his more serious moving into music during the summer after 5th grade, preparing to start 6th grade band.  Trombone was his instrument of choice.  Though looking back he wishes he had learned sax.  But at the time, he didn’t want to be like his brother.
Scott found himself doing quite well and was able to join the high school band and jazz band  in 8th grade.  Shortly into high school, he started playing with his uncles and brother in the band Freeport, usually playing some trombone and running a drum machine.  He picked up some piano lessons during that time and started playing keyboard too.  Scott also learned a little guitar and bass as he went along.

Once out of high school, Scott started focusing more on guitar and bass, taking guitar lessons from the local music store.  As the band continued to change names and styles, he also learned some mandolin for some of the country tunes.

Scott considers himself a Jack-of-all-trades in the band, playing several instruments as the needs have arrived.  You can see him playing trombone, bass, keyboard and percussion.  Scott is also involved with playing at his church.  Here he often plays bass but also some guitar and mandolin.  He has been seen in the bitter cold with his trombone and tuba playing friend bringing some Christmas cheer to people arriving at church.

If you go to Scott’s house, you will also see a few more toys such as a lap dulcimer, penny whistle and harmonica.  Basically, Scott likes making music of all kinds.  Who knows, maybe a banjo will make its way into Scott’s hands some day.

Outside of music, Scott’s interests are in woodworking, mountain biking, camping, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
