Shane Culver

Shane has been playing music for over 25 years. He began his music “career” playing alto saxophone in the 6th grade. He moved on to high school band and also played bari and alto saxophone in the jazz band. When the family band Freeport was formed Shane played alto sax with them as well. The band continued to transition and change, styles as well as names. As the band became the Ballpark Franks, Shane played alto sax less and transitioned into bass and rhythm guitar. When the regular drummer left the band, Shane once again transitioned into drums.

Shane enjoys a wide variety of musical styles, but is partial to the Blues and Funk. With his musical beginnings on saxophone he is most fond of those with horn sections. Shane’s favorites include Chicago, The Blues Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Huey Lewis and the News.

When he’s not playing music, Shane is an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoys backyard barbequing, drinking Mountain Dew, and messing around with his six children. One of his favorite games to play is “Name that Artist” in the car with his wife. The game is played by pressing the “seek” button on the car radio and seeing who can shout out the artist’s name first. (She almost always wins!)

Shane loves music and feels blessed to have had such positive musical influences in his life.
